As the Gala’s keynote speaker, Luke Zamperini will speak about the legacy of his late father, Louis Zamperini, a 1936 Olympic athlete and World War II POW, whose amazing life story was told in the New York Times best-selling book and block-buster movie “Unbroken.” In his first visit to South Jersey, Luke Zamperini will share his unique perspective on how the disciplines of athletics, scouting, and education prepared his father to survive an incredible ordeal at sea and would subsequently help him to endure cruelty and humiliation as a prisoner of war. “We are very excited to have Mr. Zamperini speak at our Gala as his father’s life story is one that can teach all of us important lessons – he showed unwavering resilience through hardship, and forgiveness in the wake of incomparable suffering,” said Chief School Administrator Karen Oblen. “We are looking forward to hearing him share an inspiring message with our school family as well as with friends and supporters in the community.” Luke Zamperini, who resides in Southern California, is the Chief Inspector and Public Information Officer for the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.
