By: Serious Coffee In 1994, Serious Coffee opened its first café in downtown Duncan, BC. Over the years, Serious Coffee has expanded to 25 cafes on Vancouver Island including Campbell River, Courtenay, Parksville, Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Duncan, Mill Bay, Sidney, Sooke and Victoria – and are still growing! Over the past two decades, Serious Coffee’s growth has been fueled by an ever-increasing loyal following of coffee (and tea!) lovers on Vancouver Island. Serious Coffee Offers The Freshest Coffee on Vancouver Island… Serious Coffee prides itself on serving up the freshest, most flavourful coffee beans, Americano’s and Lattés on Vancouver Island. At their 6,000 square foot Roasting Plant in the Cowichan Valley, coffee is roasted only when ordered and then shipped to the cafes the next day, making it the freshest coffee available on the island. When they say fresh roasted, they mean it! Over the past 20 years, Serious Coffee has micro roasted millions of pounds of coffee from farmers in countries like: Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Colombia, Honduras, Jamaica, Hawaii, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Yemen, Sumatra, Vietnam, Nepal, India, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba and more. They use a unique coffee roasting method called “air roasting”. Much like a hot-air popcorn machine, it roasts coffee by suspending the beans in a fluid bed of hot air until they are finished roasting. This unique method of roasting ensures that the coffee beans are never burnt in the roasting process and eliminates the bitterness often associated with the darker roasts. Serious Coffee only uses the “Swiss Water” method to decaffeinate the beans, ensuring that no chemicals are used. This is an approved method for decaffeinating organic coffee. Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse Serious Coffee offers their used coffee grounds for customers to take home and create nutrient rich soil or compost mixes for their gardens. They also donate the burlap coffee bean sacks to local honeybee clubs whichhas helped play a role in keeping local honeybees alive and happy by fuelling smokers in countless rural and inner city locations. Local Coffee Roasting Company - Islanders Supporting Islanders! All Serious Coffee cafes are owned and operated by local Vancouver Islanders. They are committed to serving their local communities and have had extensive involvement in many worthwhile local causes such as: Cop for Cancer Ride, Jeneece Place, The Mustard Seed food bank, Wounded Warrior Run and more… To assist local charities, they also provide free digital ad space in their cafes to advertise community events.
