Follow on Google News | Volley America National Ranking SystemBy: Volley America Volley America is the largest grass roots organization in the US for beach volleyball players and organizers: over 15,000 dues paying members from 40 states and 38 volleyball organizers. Volley America has developed a National Ranking System based on player’s results from tournaments throughout the United States. The goal of the ranking system is to allow players to move around the country to play in events and be seeded properly. In the past, players from outside a region would be unknown and placed at the bottom of the tournament seedings. This new national ranking system, through cooperation with the many Volley America member organizations, will solve this problem. Rankings are calculated based on total points earned from each tournament. All divisions are awarded bonus points based on the number of teams in a division. 1st place of a division receives bonus points equal to the number of teams in that division. 2nd place receives bonus points equal to the number of teams in that division, minus 2, and so on until you get to 0. This makes larger tournaments worth more than the weaker tournaments, yet still does not penalize teams that win smaller events. See below for further information: Details: o Each division is given a point multiplier: o Open = 1,000 o AA = 100 o A = 10 o B = 1 o Of your last 10 tournament results, the top 5 finishes from the current and previous year are counted towards National Rankings o Top results from this year are added to your top results from last year, within a 10 tournament limit o Example) You play in 8 tournaments this summer and you played 6 last year (14 total). Of the 14 tournaments, this year’s 8, and the previous year’s most current 2 tournaments will count. Of those 10 total tournaments, the top 5 results will be added to give you your national ranking. o Go online to http://www.volleyamerica.com/ o To see your standing, go online to http://www.volleyamerica.com/ o Narrow your search by selecting your affiliated league, or search all leagues As of 2014, the top nationally ranked Men’s and Women’s beach teams (all leagues) are as follows: Men’s Open 1.
