Follow on Google News | Revolutionizing the Road to Sobriety with TechnologyFundraising efforts began on Indiegogo.com this week for Sober Chat, the first location-based mobile app focused on helping people in recovery stay clean and sober.
By: Sober Chat App “As someone in recovery, support from my community is the number one factor for my daily success. There have been moments when I needed to connect with someone and my regular support system was not available to me,” says Sober Chat Co-Founder Will Cummins. The goal is for the Sober Chat community to be that support network when you need it via your smartphone. Sober Chat aims to connect the estimated 20 million Americans in recovery with a powerful tool that will provide members with a 24/7 community of support. The app users, who share a common goal of staying clean and sober, will be able to lend or receive instant support any time of day or night, wherever the user may be located. When launched, the app will have a $0.99 annual subscription, which was inspired by a tradition of contributing a $1 at various 12-Step recovery meetings. While the initial design for Sober Chat has been completed, the $60,000 target for additional funds will be used to complete the final build of the app, to provide ongoing technical support, and to fund a marketing campaign to raise awareness of the potentially life-saving tool. The general public can help fund this project by making a donation on Sober Chat’s Indiegogo fundraising page at https://www.indiegogo.com/ Interventionist Ken Seeley, who was featured for years on A&E’s Emmy Award-winning television show, “Intervention” has made a personal investment in the project, as well as endorsing it as a tool which, as an industry professional, he believes will help people stay clean and sober. “We believe that Sober Chat will be a powerful, in-your-pocket tool that will save lives, families and relationships in this country,” says Co-Founder Michael Crosby. “Sober Chat will complement 12-step programs, therapy and other traditional forms of support in the Recovery community for people that might otherwise relapse into their addictions.” Sober Chat is a mobile app for the recovery community. The app is in development with an expected launch in the fall of 2014.
