Follow on Google News | Bra Recycling Month Celebrates 5th Year of Bringing Awareness to Breast Cancer & Domestic ViolenceIt's About Celebrating Women and Their Victories Over Cancer and Domestic Violence!
Like last year, Bra Recycling Month is also about celebration. The Bra Recyclers will sponsor the Brazaar Art Showcase in an effort to celebrate the lives of millions of women and girls who have battled cancer, neglect and abuse to blossom into individuals who inspire and motivate us to never take for granted the small things in our lives, even a bra. The Bra Recyclers have invited individuals and groups across the country to submit a piece for the Brazaar Art Showcase. On October 18-19, The Bra Recyclers will showcase the Brazaar Art during the AZ Ultimate Women’s Expo held at the Phoenix Convention Center. Additionally, submissions will be posted online for voting nationally. You can vote by going to www.facebook.com/ As always, anyone who recycles bras in October will be entered into a drawing to win one of several great prizes, including $25 American Express Gift Cards, Soma Intimates Gift Cards and the infamous “Got Bras?” shirt. Additionally, The Bra Recyclers will be making a monetary donation to Moma’s House (www.momashouse.org) In addition to supporting breast cancer awareness and domestic violence awareness, Bra Recycling Month also brings awareness to the importance of sustainability and delaying the amount of re-usable textile waste ending up in landfills. “As a member of the Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles (SMART) the association, continues to educate the consumer, retailers and manufacturers that ‘95% of textiles that are worn or torn can be recycled, yet only 15% gets donated or recycled. That means that 85% are unnecessarily going to landfills.’ “These reusable textiles, like bras, could benefit women and girls around the world who cannot afford this simple lingerie staple that is considered a luxury item in their eyes,” said The Bra Recyclers CEO, Elaine Birks-Mitchell. Year after year, The Bra Recyclers have set and accomplished their bra recycling goals. During Bra Recycling Month in 2013, over 15,000 bras were recycled from women across the country. This year, The Bra Recyclers believe women will recycle more bras than ever thanks to a network of support from Bra Recycling Ambassadors across the country. Our goal for 2014 is to collect 18,000 bras.
