MIAMI - Sept. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- MIAMI BEACH, FL (September 24, 2014) – The Shelborne, one of South Beach’s most historic heritage properties, will revive its glamorous legacy when it reopens on September 24, 2014 as Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach following a $90 million restoration and renovation.

The Shelborne was designed by Art Deco architect Igor Polevitsky in 1940 and updated in the 1950s by Morris Lapidus, who lent his signature Neo-baroque Miami Modern grace to the property.  Its original owners, the Galbut family of Miami, partnered with Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos and Paul Kanavos, of Flag Luxury Group, to implement a renovation that has restored the Shelborne’s original grandeur.  Together, this new ownership team is proud to reintroduce the hotel to guests as part of the distinctive ensemble of Wyndham Grand® hotels and resorts.

Shelborne Wyndham Grand brings an exciting portfolio of culturally infused leisure and entertainment experiences to South Beach, many fostered through exclusive brand partnerships. The property features Morimoto South Beach, the cool, contemporary Miami flagship restaurant from award-winning chef Masaharu Morimoto, who will also expertly curate Shelborne Wyndham Grand’s comprehensive food and beverage programs including room service, catering and additional forthcoming dining establishments. The 180-seat indoor and outdoor restaurant was designed by the award-wining Glamorous Group of Tokyo.

Additionally, Shelborne Wyndham Grand’s 1940s-inspired lobby has been restored as the Drawing Room Bar & Lounge, which presents an original artistic cocktail program from celebrated apotheker Albert Trummer.

Two of today’s most innovative interior designers, Meg Sharpe of Meg Sharpe Interiors and Richard Mishaan of Richard Mishaan Design, were tapped to bring the Shelborne Wyndham Grand team’s vision to life.  Sharpe, whose success with notable hospitality projects has distinguished her ability to retain the significance of landmark architecture while incorporating original sophistication and contemporary comforts, designed all of the hotel’s public areas, including the main lobby reception, the Drawing Room Bar & Lounge, the Blue Harmony® Spa, and the chic pool and cabana experiences. The guest rooms, suites, corridors, meeting spaces and ballrooms were designed by Mishaan, whose capacity for infusing understated luxury and timeless elegance into his work was further inspired by his own appreciation for the property, having previously vacationed there.

“Shelborne’s history is so rich and so beautiful; we couldn’t resist the opportunity to restore this property to its rightful glory,” said Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos.  “This new space will reflect its authentic old-school glamour and opulence, while incorporating the modern day comforts and conveniences of Wyndham Grand Hotels and Resorts, melding the best of both eras into one extraordinary destination.”

The property’s distinctive heritage and style is consistent throughout each aspect of the property, including the staff wardrobes, masterminded by Hollywood costume designer Carol Ramsey.  As a luxurious lifestyle resort, Shelborne Wyndham Grand’s public spaces are multi-functional to best accommodate guests’ needs and preferences; the Drawing Room lounge, which serves as a business center and reading room by day, will transform into a vibrant bar scene at night. Shelborne Wyndham Grand will also introduce two specialty suites later this year, including a spa suite and its Penthouse suite, which will feature a vinyl lounge.

“Shelborne Wyndham Grand will offer an expertly curated experience, infused with elements of South Beach’s art, fashion, design and local culture,” said Bob Loewen, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Wyndham Hotel Group, which manages the property. “We are excited to be a part of this project, as it reflects the excellence and unique experiences for which Wyndham Grand properties are known for around the world.”

Blue Harmony® Spa is the Shelborne Wyndham Grand’s original beauty and wellness destination, elevating South Beach’s spa scene with offerings unique to its culturally infused, leisure-driven locale.  Blue Harmony Spa boasts signature specialty treatments by the luxury spa brand NATURA BISSE®, and offers select services using the anti-aging skincare line HEVIA MD SKIN SCIENCE™, from esteemed Miami dermatologist Dr. Oscar Hevia.

Shelborne Wyndham Grand features more than 15,000 sq. ft. of expansive event areas that include several meeting rooms, an executive boardroom, breakout rooms, a grand ballroom and extensive indoor and outdoor flexible space, allowing Shelborne to expertly cater to a wide array of celebrations, galas, corporate functions and intimate gatherings. Every meeting and event will feature a delicious array of culinary selections created by Chef Morimoto.

Located oceanfront in the heart of South Beach’s Art Deco District, Shelborne Wyndham Grand is situated in one of the most desirable areas of Miami Beach and within walking distance to Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive. The elegant pool and lounge area, which features inviting cabanas, leads right up to the boardwalk and a long stretch of white-sand beach. In honoring its heritage and reviving its history with a refined, contemporary appeal, the Shelborne Wyndham Grand team has primed the property to be an incomparable South Beach destination.
