Oct. 6, 2014 - PRLog -- According to the results of a recent survey presented by the University of Cincinnati, out 45 companies surveyed, 54% of new customers responded that they first became aware of the company through the business’ on-site sign.

“Without a properly designed business sign, a commercial site cannot function at its full potential,” the U.S. Small Business Administration says.

Signs are also cost effective, and compared to other forms of advertising they rank as one of the most effective forms of advertising.

“Signs are among the most effective ways to advertise, and generate new customers,” says Bart Peterschick, owner of Humble, Texas-based company Humble Signs. “50% of new customers learn about a business from the company's onsite sign. This means that if you aren't making the most of your opportunity to advertise with a sign, you could be losing valuable business.”

Even though a business sign is primarily designed to alert customers of a company’s existence –a good sign has a dual purpose. “While a business sign is there to mark your existence, and give direction to others intentionally set out to find you, it can also work in different ways to help draw new customers to you before they set foot inside your shop,” Peterschick says.

The job of a business sign is more than just alerting customers of a company’s location. “A good business sign will not only say ‘Hey! I’m here!’ It should also be memorable,” Peterschick says. “A business sign should be designed to come back to your customers’ mind later.”

If a company is looking to increase their customer base, they may need to look no further than their on-site company sign. “One way to attract new customers is by changing your tired old signs,” Peterschick concludes. “Permanent signs like those on your building itself, in your office park, or displayed in your lobby can often look worn out and dated, as well as dilapidated and hard to read.”
