SOMERVILLE, Mass. - Oct. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Noteworthy Sheet Music, LLC (NSM) is an online sheet music publishing enterprise with a catalog of >120 editions, most of which are unavailable from other sources.  NSM specializes in, but is not limited to, sheet music for flute and alto flute.  They offer original contemporary works by distinguished American composers, facsimile editions of rare historical scores, and unique transcriptions of pieces from the classical repertoire.  Selected NSM publications are offered as professionally-printed hard copies, and all of NSM’s catalog listings are available as convenient pdf downloads from the NSM website.  Visit www.NoteworthySheetMusic.com for additional information about the new releases mentioned below and other NSM editions.  New sheet music selections are uploaded often, along with preview pages, contemporary composer biographies, useful links, reviews and articles.

With the recent addition of Bagette no. 4 to its catalog, Noteworthy Sheet Music welcomed Zenon Slawinskias their latestcontributing composer.   Mr. Slawinski studied music theory and composition at the University of Michigan with Leslie Bassett, William Bolcom, and William Albright.  He also studied Campanology with Hudson Ladd.  After graduating with honors he pursued a career in both music and graphic design.  Mr. Slawinski was co-music director for the Peabody and Ohio State award winning Children’s Radio Theatre program, and scored numerous independent and industrial films and films for the Smithsonian Institution that aired at Smithsonian museums and on PBS.  He wrote the music to the popular political talk show The John McLaughlin Group.  Mr. Slawinski was a founding partner of a multimedia production company and recording studio working in the early interactive days on educational and entertainment music projects in the CDi and CD-ROM formats, many of which won numerous awards.  Drawing on his graphic design expertise, the composer has created striking cover art for the several editions of his music now published by NSM.  Additional details of Zenon Slawinski’s biography may be found on the Composers page of the NSM website.

Two more works by Zenon Slawinski, in addition to Bagette no. 4, have just been published.  Cookies came about as the composer and his wife were exploring the repertoire available for flute and piano; they decided they wanted something new, composed for their time and their audience.  Mr. Slawinski is a pianist as well as a composer, and his wife is a flutist.  There are twelve independent Cookies in all; eleven of them are flute and piano duets, whereas Cookie No. 9 is a flute solo.  The Cookies range in difficulty from the rather simple and easy to play, to the intermediate, to the more challenging.  The work is marketed as either the complete set of twelve pieces or as subsets of four Cookies each, grouped roughly according to difficulty.

The 5 Dessert Rounds were written for two flutes.  In most classic rounds the second voice begins and plays (or sings) the same melody as the first voice.  That's the case here too for three of the five Dessert Rounds.  Rounds 3 and 4 are different.  In Round 3—The Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie—the second voice plays the same melody but a third higher.  In Round 4—Sweet Potato Flan—the second voice plays the melody a 4th higher.  The Dessert Rounds are relatively simple and should not pose any difficulties for most intermediate level players, although there are some tricky meter changes in Round 2—Chocolate Mint Ice Dream—which, by the way, is offered as a free PDF download.
