New York Youth Symphony launches Kickstarter to help fund our tour to Argentina

NEW YORK - Oct. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- The New York Youth Symphony Orchestra (NYYS)—New York City’s premier youth orchestra for over fifty years--- will head to Argentina for a week this coming summer for its first-ever international tour.  It is sure to be an extraordinary opportunity for our young musicians to experience a new land and culture—and to experience as well their ability to connect through the language of music with people very different from themselves. As a tuition-free program NYYS orchestra is proud of its socioeconomic diversity and the core organizational values that reflects, and it is our goal to provide financial aid to all qualified students who would otherwise not be able to participate.  We are asking for your help to accomplish that goal! Please read below to learn more about the tour and the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra’s own remarkable story.

The Tour

The NYYS orchestra will play three performances in Buenos Aires and surrounding areas, performing works they will have prepared and performed during the orchestra’s regular 2014/15 season in New York, as well as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. The violinist Elena Urioste, named one of the “Future Fifteen” by Latina Magazine, will join the tour performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto. Molly Joyce’s Fresh – an NYYS commissioned work – will complete the program.  In addition to the concert program, the students will participate in a series of invaluable cultural exchanges with South American students in Bueno Aires and the surrounding areas.  These cultural exchanges will be first-hand, experiential education of another culture for our orchestra students, and as such opportunities for expanding their own world views and understanding of people very different from themselves.
