Follow on Google News | Former Miss U.S. Latina to direct Miss and Teen Rhode Island Latina PageantsSasha Zacarias, Miss U.S. Latina 2012 and a former Miss Rhode Island Latina, has been granted the exclusive license to conduct the official state preliminaries for Rhode Island to the national Miss U.S. Latina and Miss Teen U.S. Latina pageants.
“We are very happy that Sasha has accepted to become a state director in our program,” said Pageant President and Founder Acirema Alayeto. “She did a fantastic job as Miss U.S. Latina and we got to appreciate her many excellent traits that will serve her well in the challenging position of pageant director. The young women who will be participating in the state pageants under her directorship will have an amazing role model to inspire and assist them in their personal growth and development,” Miss Rhode Island Latina is the oldest competition for Latinas in the state. It was created in 1983 as part of the Miss Latin America of the World pageant system and established in Providence in 1987 under the successful directorship of Mercedes Mendez. The Teen division was established in 1999. The Miss Rhode Island Latina and Miss Teen Rhode Island Latina competitions are open to unmarried young women of Latina or Hispanic heritage between the ages of 14-17 and 18-27 residing, working or studying in the state.
