Local Union Carpenters Volunteer for United Way of Allen County

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Nov. 26, 2014 - PRLog -- On November 25, Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) members from Local 232 in Fort Wayne volunteered their time and skills through United Way of Allen County to build a wheelchair ramp for a local community member who was left disabled after enduring a workplace injury.

Five members of Local 232 volunteered for this day-long project. The materials used to build the wheelchair ramp were donated by USW Local 903 and UAW Local 2209. All of the labor was provided by Carpenters Local 232.

“We’re just a bunch of Carpenters having fun and giving back to the community,” commented William Klein, IKORCC Representative. “That’s what Thanksgiving is all about.”

“Community service and involvement are at the heart of the IKORCC,” said Shane Harris IKORCC Millwright Representative. “We have a long-standing relationship with United Way of Allen County, and we like to give back to those in need whenever and however we can.”

“One of United Way’s community goals is to ensure that persons with disabilities can maintain their independence,” said Gayle Goodrich of United Way of Allen County. “Carpenters Local 232 made that goal a reality for this family when they built their ramp, and they are a great example of what it means to Live United!”
