Henry Kelley named to Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. - Feb. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Henry Kelley, Program Director of Community Affairs, Okaloosa County School District (OCSD), was named as OCSD’s representative to the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3).  The goal of the Compact is to replace the widely varying policies affecting transitioning military students. The Compact leverages consistency: It uses a comprehensive approach that provides a consistent policy in every school district and in every state that chooses to join.

The Compact addresses key educational transition issues encountered by military families including enrollment, placement, attendance, eligibility and graduation.

Children of active duty members of the uniformed services, National Guard and Reserve on active duty orders, and members or veterans who are medically discharged or retired for one year are eligible for assistance under the Compact.

“As a former service member, and as the son of a veteran who moved frequently, I am honored with this responsibility that affects nearly 10,000 of our 30,000 students,” said Kelley.  “It will be great to work with our fellow states in helping students transition from one military community to another.”
