Honda Supports New Law to Increase Recall Completion RatesHonda is supporting proposed legislation to ensure the roads are safer through increased recall rates.
The bill was introduced recently by Senators Richard Blumenthal and Edward Markey, with Rick Schostek, Honda's Executive Vice President, explaining their objective: "Our goal is to achieve a 100 percent repair rate for every recall in order to prevent injuries and save lives, and this legislation will help achieve that. We look forward to working with Senators Markey and Blumenthal, the Congress and other safety stakeholders as this proposal works its way through the legislative process.” This may seem like an inconsequential bill to some, but the truth is that about a third of the motor vehicles on the streets of the United States are in need of a recall for safety defects. Newer vehicles often have higher recall completion rates, but it can take a few years for some issues to be spotted, and it is these older models that are so rarely repaired. As of now, Honda has sent out millions of repair notices for their Takata airbag recall, but many of the ruptures are occurring in vehicles that are at least 10 years old. As part of Honda's ongoing commitment to driver safety, they are encouraging all Honda drivers to contact their local dealerships and bring their vehicle(s) in for any potential repairs.
