SMA Foundation Welcomes Two New Board Members

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - May 13, 2015 - PRLog -- Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation is pleased to welcome Sherry Keyes and Dr. Pamela Carbiener to their board of directors.

“We are excited to add Dr. Carbiener and Sherry to our board – new members always come with great new ideas, suggestions on how things can be done, and new connections,” said Jon Greaves, Chairman of the Board for the Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation. “Dr. Carbiener has volunteered her time with SMA for many of our initiatives over the years, and Sherry brings her marketing experience that is essential to some of our goals for the board this year,” he added.

Dr. Carbiener is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Halifax OB/GYN in Daytona Beach. She engaged in community issues early in her career. She co-founded COPE (Community Outreach to Prevent Eating Disorders). She has worked with organizations providing support for victims of assault. She serves on the board of Healthy Start and the Substance Exposed Newborn task force. She is a director for the Bert Fish Foundation. She has chaired The Daytona Women's Center, now the Center for Women and Men, and served as director for the American Heart Ball in 2013.  She currently serves on the board of the Daytona Blues Festival, creating a three-day music event from which all proceeds are directed to issues of women and children’s health.

A focus of Dr. Carbiener’s has been maintaining and increasing access to prenatal care for all women in Volusia County. She has worked with various task forces to identify lapses in prenatal care and prepare for changes in insurance and Medicaid that impact access in the coming months. She cared for high-risk women at the VCHD weekly for two years. She is currently working with Women’s Care Now to expand the services of Halifax Health to all women, including those needing prenatal care.

Sherry Keyes is the marketing manager at Keyes Stange and Wooten CPA firm, with locations in Daytona Beach and Palm Coast.  She has lived in Volusia County for 40 years and an operations consultant in the securities industry for nearly 20 years. She currently volunteers at Beachside Community Church and is on the fundraising team for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and she and her husband, Jerry Keyes, recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Sherry said she is excited to work in partnership with our community to improve access to all types of behavioral healthcare.

Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundationwas founded by Jim Foster at the request of Hal Marchman in 1997. The volunteer board of directors is comprised of leading professionals, business leaders, and citizens from the Volusia/Flagler area. The Foundation's sole mission is to build resources, public awareness, and research to support the programs of Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare, the leading non-profit behavioral healthcare organization in Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns and Volusia Counties.
