Massive Turntable to Be Used in the Manufacture of Industrial Furnaces

April 24, 2015 - PRLog -- Axial Industrial Turntables recently designed and built a massive 28-ft.-diameter, 530,000-lb.-capacity wheeled turntable for a manufacturer of industrial furnaces. The turntable was so large that it had to be shipped in pieces and assembled onsite.

The turntable is designed to be mounted in a pit so that its top is flush with the surrounding floor. This allows a rail-mounted transporter carrying a furnace to drive on and off the turntable.

The turntable rotates atop massive steel casters arranged in two rows. The unit is powered by an external hydraulic drive motor that engages large metal teeth on the perimeter of the turntable. The drive is accessible for maintenance via removable plates in the turntable’s top.

Although herculean in strength, the turntable is far from speedy – it requires three minutes to make a complete revolution. The turntable is designed for position at 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees.
