DETROIT - May 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Just a few years ago, wearable computing was relegated to a few targeted-use business products and less-than-sleek form factors. Today, the wearables sector of the mobile/wireless industry has taken off with a wide variety of bodywear form factors. As of April 2015, the Vantrico Wearables Technology Database lists 296 unique devices for the head, neck, chest, torso, waist, arm, hand, leg and feet.  Popular form factors include fitness bands and smart watches, though innovators globally, including those in Michigan, are heavily focused on increasing the types of wearables available to include eyewear, clothing and more, along with increasing the functions they are able to perform. A recent Wearables Report from Business Insider predicts that:

·   The global wearables market will grow at a compound annual rate of 35% over the next five years
·   Smart watches will be the leading category, rising by a compound annual rate of 41% over the next five years
·   Apple Watch will account for 40% of smartwatch shipments in 2015 and reach a peak 48% share in 2017

To help Michigan innovators understand the wearables market and the opportunity it provides for Michigan businesses in a wide variety of industries, on Monday, May 11th Mobile Monday Detroit is presenting a panel of Michigan-based experts who will provide information on the wearables landscape, as well as a deep-dive into the Apple Watch and Wearable Health Monitoring.

Speakers will include:

·   Richard Geyer, Engineering Lead, Vectorform
·   Leo Dion, CEO/Owner, BrightDigit
·   Dr. Omid Dehzangi, Assistant Professor, Computer and Information Science, University of Michigan - Dearborn

The evening’s program will take place at the corporate headquarters of Vectorform in Royal Oak, with refreshments also provided compliments of Vectorform.
