Since heatstroke occurs at 104 degrees, the alert gives parents ample time to rescue a child. Between 1998 and 2014, there were 636 deaths of children between the ages of 5 and 14 from heatstroke due to being left in a vehicle unattended. “Children left in hot vehicles is an issue in the United States and we are so proud of Zane for working toward being a part of the solution,” said Jeremy Gregersen, head of school at TMS. “We encourage our students to be solution based in their thinking. On behalf of the entire Meadows School, I congratulate Zane on this tremendous honor.” Students competing in the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge were asked to develop an innovative solution to an everyday problem that could ultimately reshape the way we live our lives and create a video and presentation showcasing their work. Students were judged on a combination of their scientific knowledge as well as their presentation skills. Science and communications leaders and current and former educators and administrators judge the Young Scientist Challenge.
