The Meadows School Student Zane Pasha Named Nevada State Merit Winner Discovery Education 3M Young

LAS VEGAS - June 25, 2015 - PRLog -- The Meadows School (TMS) is proud to announce that rising 8th grade student Zane Pasha has been named the Nevada State Merit Winner in the 2015 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge (http://www.youngscientistchallenge.com/2015-challenge). Pasha is being recognized for his submission called HeatSafe, a product designed to decrease the number of deaths by heatstroke when a child is left accidentally in a hot vehicle. Pasha will receive a 3M technology prize pack and will be recognized on the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge website, www.youngscientistchallenge.com.

HeatSafe is a thermometer that measures the temperature in a vehicle and alerts parents by sending a text when the thermometer reaches 90 degrees. Since heatstroke occurs at 104 degrees, the alert gives parents ample time to rescue a child. Between 1998 and 2014, there were 636 deaths of children between the ages of 5 and 14 from heatstroke due to being left in a vehicle unattended.

“Children left in hot vehicles is an issue in the United States and we are so proud of Zane for working toward being a part of the solution,” said Jeremy Gregersen, head of school at TMS. “We encourage our students to be solution based in their thinking. On behalf of the entire Meadows School, I congratulate Zane on this tremendous honor.”

Students competing in the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge were asked to develop an innovative solution to an everyday problem that could ultimately reshape the way we live our lives and create a video and presentation showcasing their work. Students were judged on a combination of their scientific knowledge as well as their presentation skills. Science and communications leaders and current and former educators and administrators judge the Young Scientist Challenge.
