Acbc Donates $1.5 Million Us Dollars In Medical Supplies To Liberia

ACBC DONATES $1.5 MILLION US DOLLARS IN MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO LIBERIA

March 23, 2015: Monrovia – Liberia: The African and Caribbean Business Council (ACBC) today donated a total of $1.5 million US dollars in medical supplies to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Monrovia Liberia. The donation comprised of 2.5 million syringes, 2880 pallet of overalls and coats and a significant number of gloves. The medical supplies were contained in 6 forty foot containers. This donation was realized during ACBC 5th Winter Award Dinner and Business Roundtable November 2014. ACBC conducted a fund raising during a special session on Ebola and sought assistance to help with Ebola crisis in Liberia.

ACBC President Dr. Azuka Anyiam and the Chief Executive Officer of ACBC partner company and sponsor Mr. Joe Lopez of ECOWAYZ International LLC travelled to Monrovia to perform the official handing over ceremony. The donation was received by the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare Mr. Mathew Flomo, together with The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Elias Shoninyan and the Mayor of the City of Monrovia Ms. Clara Mvogo and Dr. Saye Dahn Bawo, Assistant Health Minister for Curative Services. Also present was Liberia Counsel General for New York Mr. Rudolph Sherman. Speaking during the event, ACBC President Dr. Azuka Anyiam stated that the donation is part of ACBC efforts in meeting its business and social obligations while promoting trade, exports and investment between USA and Africa and the Caribbean. “ACBC will continue to help and be the bridge to foster growth and economic prosperity to our great continent Africa and the Caribbean” he declared. Request for donation was made initially by Ms. Christine Maycole of InspiraGEN International, a Liberian and member of ACBC. The Mayor of the City of Monrovia also sent a special letter requesting ACBC assistance.

Speaking during the turning over ceremony, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Elias Shoninyan, said that with the donation containing 2.5 million syringes, ACBC has made themselves a friend to Liberians. “I just want to say to the African & Caribbean Business Council that the Government of Liberia truly appreciates the gesture, and by this act of courage, ACBC has earned a very long rewarding partnership with the Government and people of Liberia.” Acting Min. Shoninyan stated.

Deputy Health Minister, Mr. Matthew Flomo also stated that the Ministry was “overjoyed” to receive the six 40-foot containers of medical supplies and that the Ministry welcomes the donation with utmost gratitude. He assured ACBC that the donation would be used for the purpose it was donated and that as the country gradually moves toward the restoration and revitalization of basic health services, the donated items would be used to help strengthen the health sector.

This donation would not be possible without the excellent contribution of Arkansas Department of Health (ADH). ACBC hereby expressed our profound gratitude to themADH and especially to Mr. Jerome Ngundue and Ramah Nkuu.
