During the August Sun Valley Gallery Walk, Ken Newman will be debuting in Idaho his newest wood sculpture “The Great and Powerful,” which was featured at the Woodson Art Museum in 2014. This Eastern and Western black walnut sculpture is an iconic representation of the US interstate system and how nature adapts to man’s development. On Saturday at 11am, Ken will be speaking about his large bronze, “Confluence of Blue”, featuring six great blue herons, which he sculpted as the Featured Artist for the 44th Annual Waterfowl Festival in Easton Maryland. As an elected member of the National Sculpture Society and the Society of Animal Artists, his passion for storytelling through sculpture is renowned. Why Birds? Ken explains his passion for birds “As with all of nature, I find birds a great vehicle to communicate. With their incredible varied shapes and forms and wonderful articulation of plumage, they lend themselves to an artistic voice”. So flutter on into Jennifer Bellinger’s Galley and see some of the most impressive Bird Art in Idaho through September. There will be art for everyone’s pocket book, from small to large works. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the artists during SVGA Gallery Walk, Friday August 7 from 5-8pm. Artists will also share why they choose birds as their subjects on Saturday, August 8 at 11am.
