Ken Newman's Rat Race bronze chosen for Prestigious Exhibitions in US

Ken Newman's bronze sculpture "The Rat Race" is featured at several museums across the United States including; Loveland Colorado, Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina and Houston Museum of Natural Science in Texas.

CAMBRIDGE, Idaho - Aug. 5, 2016 - PRLog -- Distinguished and award winning Idaho wildlife sculptor Ken Newman learned in May that one of his bronze sculptures "The Rat Race" had been juried into three prestigious museums; The Loveland Art Museum, Brookgreen Gardens and the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Newman's bronze portrayal of three desert kangaroo rats titled "The Rat Race" is currently on exhibit at The Loveland Art Museum's "Animalia" exhibition, which opened in June and runs through August 21st in Colorado.

The sculpture was chosen from 981 entries submitted by 255 sculptors for the "83rd National Sculpture Society's Annual Awards" exhibition at the acclaimed Brookgreen Gardens in Pawley Island, South Carolina from August 6th through October 29th. And finally, "The Rat Race" was juried by his peers for the 56th Society of Animal Artist's "Art and the Animal" exhibition at the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Texas from September 23 through January 1, 2017.

When asked, why sculpt rats? Ken Newman of Cambridge, Idaho answered "in an attempt to challenge that broad perception on how we sometimes perceive the beauty of nature and the fact that nature's beauty and importance exists far beyond the iconic lions, tigers and bears. Perception verses reality creates an amazing dialog – is that not art?"

"The desert kangaroo rats have exquisite sculptural qualities, their anatomy and habits allow for composing wonderful lines and masses that create tension and movement, becoming the perfect subject as a metaphor for man" Newman explains.

"It is an honor for one of my sculptures to be chosen for these three exhibitions which feature many of the best representational sculptors in all subjects and mediums in the country" states Ken.

Each venue for the exhibitions are unique; Brookgreen Gardens is one of America's premier gardens established by the Huntington/Hyatt marriage. The Loveland Art Museum located in Loveland, Colorado is the known as a sweetheart city, which has a love affair with the arts, featuring the largest outdoor juried sculpture show in the country held each August since 1984. The Houston Museum of Natural Sciences is a revered institution first opened in 1909 with the mission to enhance in individuals the knowledge and delight in natural science and related subjects.

Ken Newman is an Elected Member of the National Sculpture Society of New York and a Signature member of the Society of Animal Artists based in Colorado.
