Homeward Bound Antarctica - Promoting Women in science and leadership

Homeward Bound is an international leadership program open to 78 women in science. The program aims to elevate the role of women in leadership globally; demonstrate how polar science provides an evidence-base for global climate change action; and explore how women in leadership can deliver a more sustainable future.

Hi! I'm Claire. My background is in Environmental Science, and I am passionate about environmental protection and conservation. I am lucky enough to be one of the women selected to take part in the Homeward Bound program.

We will be travelling to Antarctica in December 2016 to take part in the Homeward Bound program, and although the wonderful Homeward Bound team have sourced funding to offset the $40,000 per person cost of the program, each participant is still required to raise $15,000 USD (approximately $20,000 AUD).

The program has a 10 year vision to provide women with relevant training and support, and build a global network of participants. The expedition will provide the following training and development opportunities to the participants:

1. A targeted program on leadership and innovation led by a range of leadership and content experts from around the world, including training from top strategic advisors, the Palladium Group and Kaplan & Norton;

2.The opportunity to explore the challenges facing Polar Regions due to climate change; and

3. Training and education on Antarctic and Southern Ocean responses to climate change, and conservation science.

The science content will be developed by scientists within the Australian Antarctic Division, the Antarctic Climate & Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre and the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Science.
