Dolphin Discovery Cozumel Turns 17 Years Old

COZUMEL, Mexico - Oct. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- Dolphin Discovery Cozumel, the third marine mammal habitat of the Group that opened in Quintana Roo, turned 17years old last month. It´s located within the Chankanaab Park at Cozumel Island in Quintana Roo.

The park offers the experience of interacting with 3 different marine mammals in one place: dolphins, manatees and sea lions. Been that Cozumel is the main cruiship port in Mexico, the cruise passengers are the main visitors, as the tour is available as a day trip on the island. Some of the cruise companies that prefer Dolphin Discovery Cozumel are: Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean Carnival, Costa Cruises, among others.

The park has grown in terms of attractions and services through the years; here are some of the most important events in its history:

1997    Opening with only 4 dolphins.

2001    Addition of the sea lions habitat and educational presentations for all the visitors.

2005    Complete renovation and re-opening due to the impact of hurricane Wilma.

2007    New attraction: manatee interaction, including: protection, reproduction and interaction.

2013    Reception of the “1,000,000 visitor” (passenger of the Royal Caribbean Cruise).

2014    VIP areas are added to the park facilities (restaurant, bar and cafeteria).

2015    Integration of two palapas for special events.

Dolphin Discovery Cozumel has received for 3 consecutive years, the welcome dinner for the competitors of the fishing tournament “Rodeo de Lanchas Cozumel” with over 1200 participants.

In the coming days, will be the venue for the opening dinner of the "22^nd Annual Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association Conference & Tradeshow" to be held in Cozumel, with an attendance of 1,000 people among travel agents and exhibitors.

Dolphin Discovery, along with Chankanaab Park, offers a full day of activities. It is noteworthy that among the 16 dolphinariums of the group, this is the only one where visitors can make scuba diving with dolphins directly into the sea.
