By: Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts The GWEI is an impactful program that will create a platform for collaboration and innovation by fostering and highlighting global connections and developing the entrepreneurial and leadership skills of women in Atlanta and internationally. The first cohort of international participants will include female entrepreneurs from five (5) countries (Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and Zambia) in Africa and women entrepreneurs from the City of Atlanta Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative.. Led by Managing Director, DeShawn Jenkins,under the direction of IAC Dean, Dr. Jacqueline Royster, the GWEI Institute has partnered with leading local and international private and governmental entities to select and connect African and Atlanta-based women entrepreneurs who represent the industries of agribusiness, technology, manufacturing, and media/entertainment. The intense, high-level training session will develop business skills, foster international contacts, and facilitate their access to global markets through exposure, networking, and knowledge sharing. This business and leadership development Institute is geared toward high functioning women entrepreneurs in need of mentorship, technical support and coaching to significantly improve their skills as an entrepreneur, excel in their industry, and establish significant international contacts and exposure. The program will leverage technology to facilitate business development and connectivity for participants via exposure to and implementation of products and platforms that will foster interactions and transactions within and across continents. The first cohort of participants will come from Africa due to the strength of existing connections and programs from Africa Atlanta 2014.
