BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Nov. 4, 2015 - PRLog -- The New Yorker this week profiled Lantern Books author Jens Soering, a German citizen and centering prayer practitioner who has been incarcerated since 1986 in the state of Virginia. Soering, who maintains his innocence, has written four titles for Lantern Books that discuss prison conditions, prison life, and the influence of centering prayer on the lives of the prison population.

The article, “Blood Ties,” is included in the magazine’s November 9 issue and available online now. In it, Heller tells the story of Soering, his college girlfriend Haysom, and the mysterious murder of her parents for which Soering has been incarcerated for almost thirty years. The article asks the question “All these years later, why has the case become a cause?” and discusses local and international political criminal justice issues related to a case that has involved US Attorney General Eric Holder; German President Angela Merkel; and three Virginia governors: Tim Kaine, Robert McDonnell and Terry McAuliffe.

Martin Rowe, Lantern Books co-founder and publisher, says, “Jens has used his education, his writing skills, and his other privileges to throw light upon those who landed up in prison because they were poor, illiterate, mentally ill, or on drugs, as well as lifers who are now simply being warehoused because they are old and sick. That bipartisan support for sentencing and prison reforms now exists is a testament to the work of Jens and other activistsin shining a light on an issue we would rather not think about.”
