Follow on Google News | Early Learning Coalition of SWFL Expands Literacy Buddy Program With New HireBy: The Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida In the Literacy Buddy Program, a child writes to their Buddy—telling him or her about their interests. The Buddy then buys a book for that child based on those interests, writes a note, and sends it along to the child’s classroom. These exchanges take place three times during the school year. “Brooke will be visiting all the childcare centers involved in our Literacy Buddy Program to touch base with teachers and assess if additional resources are needed in the classroom,” says Jill Corbett, supervisor of the coalition’s Literacy Buddy Program. “Brooke is here to enrich the experience of everyone involved in the program—from teachers to children to the adult ”Buddies.” If you would like to become a Literacy Buddy and help put books into the hands of children, please visit www.ELCofSWFL.org.
