Follow on Google News | Early Learning Coalition of SWFL Celebrates Dr. Seuss' Birthday with Literacy EventThe event includes visits from local celebrities who will don the famous ‘Cat in the Hat’ striped hat and read short stories to the children. Celebrity readers currently include local broadcast talent John Patrick of ABC-7, members of the Fort Myers Fire Department, a representative from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department and Susan Block, CEO of the ELC of Southwest Florida. As part of the ELC’s Literacy Buddy Program, the event aims to highlight the importance of reading, literacy and the use of books. Placing high-quality books into the hands of 3- and 4-year-olds is the goal of the Literacy Buddy Program and connects the community to its youth through written letter exchanges.
