DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Feb. 16, 2016 - PRLog -- The Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation is pleased to announce that Mark Johnson and Lawrence J. McDermott have joined the board of directors.

Lawrence “Larry” J. McDermott is a VP/Relationship Manager with Intracoastal Bank in Daytona Beach. “I believe in the SMA Foundation’s mission and wish to support its efforts,” said Larry. Larry also serves on the Local Government Committee of the Daytona Beach Chamber and is involved in Volusia Volunteers in Medicine.

Mark Johnson is a prosecutor at the State Attorney’s Office in Palatka. “Through my experience as a prosecutor, I have come to believe that much more needs to be done to provide the necessary resources to those suffering from mental illness,” said Mark. “I am honored to have the opportunity to try to persuade others to share that vision,” he added.

“We are striving to become more involved in Putnam County,” said Melissa Murphy, Chairman of the Board of the Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation. “Bringing on board representation from that area is just another step forward in supporting the services in that community,” she added. Last year the Foundation donated $51,000 toward needed facility renovations and processed $5,000 from a private donation at the end of the year for new bedding in the residential program in Putnam Adult Residential Treatment Program. Planning is underway for an educational event this year to be held at the SMA facility in Putnam County, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Chester Wilson.

Current board members include Chairman of the Board Melissa Murphy - Cobb Cole, Vice-Chairman Jimmy Foster – CCM, Assistant Vice President, Burt & Scheld Facultative Corp., Secretary Andrew Gurtis - Vice-President of Operations at the Daytona International Speedway, he also serves on the SMA board, Treasurer Sherry Keyes - Keyes, Stange & Wooten CPA Firm, LLC.
