Follow on Google News | Rock'n Music Academy Bands to Perform at Jamian's in Red BankBy: Rock'n Music Academy Rock'n Music Academy owner and professional recording artist Howard Lee Edwards, Jr. started the Academy house band program at his Middletown, NJ music school about six years ago to give advanced students an opportunity to participate in a professional level music program that includes a structured practice schedule and regularly scheduled gigs. Edwards says his goal is to have each band progress so that they're writing and performing their own original material. "I think this is what sets our program apart from others," Edwards said. "Everyone enjoys playing cover songs, but it's my goal to have all of our students move to the next level and write their own songs." Four house bands are currently active within Rock'n Music Academy's program. No Reason has been together for four years, and plays a mix of original songs and covers of artists such as John Mayer and The Black Keys. Four members of No Reason are graduating high school seniors. Unwind has been together for two years, and includes several high school sophomores. Wolfpack and Catalyst were more recently formed, with students ranging from around age 14 to age 17. As each round of band members graduates, auditions are held within the academy's student enrollment to bring new student musicians to the band line-up. The house bands are annually featured at several area charity events including The Light of Day music festival, Middletown Day, and the New Jersey Marathon. They've also been showcased at The Stone Pony and at other local open mike nights.
