TransActive Gender Center is Expanding Services

PORTLAND, Ore. - April 18, 2016 - PRLog -- TransActive Gender Center will be expanding its school, community and professional training and education services as well as their individual and collective advocacy services to accommodate increasing demand and evolving need.

When TransActive was founded in 2007, recognition that children and youth might authentically experience non-traditional forms of gender identity and expression was still in its infancy. The primary guidance provided to parents, caregivers, social service agencies, mental health providers and physicians was "wait and see" and "postpone affirming forms of treatment until they are adults".

The expansion will enable the organization to:

• Deliver professional development training to more schools, organizations, businesses and community groups;

• Quickly and effectively respond to situations involving denial of rights, access to healthcare, individual discrimination and anti-transgender policies and legislation at the local, state and national level;

• Enhance screening of independent service providers for transgender expertise;

• Increased presence at national and international conferences on gender identity;

• Provide more opportunities for youth, parents & caregivers to get involved in education and advocacy;

• Develop gender diversity-inclusive curriculum
