Mark Your Calendars and be present.
The forum will be held at the Merrell United Methodist Church located at 3900 North State Road 7, Lauderdale Lakes, from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. The schedule will proceed as follows: · County Court Judicial Candidates - 6:00 pm · District 9 County Commission Candidates - 7 pm · Candidates for statewide races - 7:40 pm · Candidates for Broward County Sheriff - 8:30pm. This is the first of two Candidate Forums being presented by the GCACC. The second Forum will focus on candidates for Florida State Representative Seats, Miami-Dade's County and Circuit Judicial seats, Miami-Dade County School Board seats, and the City of Miami Gardens City Council & Mayoral seats. This forum will be held on July 21st, 2016, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Holy Family Church, at 18501 NW 7th Avenue, Miami Gardens. The schedule will proceed as follows: · Judicial Candidates - 6:00 pm · School Board Candidates - 7pm · City of Miami Gardens' Candidates - 7:30 pm · Candidates for State Representative - 9:00 pm "This is a unique opportunity for the candidates to address issues that are of specific concern and importance to the Caribbean communities throughout the county," said Michael D. Young, President of the GACCC. "The Caribbean community, many times, has unique concerns and they look to the leaders for their sense of understanding of these differences and seek out candidates that can offer solutions to these issues while developing and maintaining strong policies that benefit the area as a whole," he added. This forum will not only serve as a platform to increase the Caribbean-American community's interest and involvement in the election process, but it will give ALL voters an opportunity to meet and learn about the candidates. In Broward County there are currently seven (7) contested County Court seats, with a total of nineteen (19) candidates. All County Court candidates are invited and will be given an opportunity to briefly speak about their background and what makes them uniquely qualified to earn the peoples trust and more importantly, their vote, thereby gaining or retaining a seat on the judiciary. Additionally, there will be a moderated discussion, where the candidates will answer pre-screened questions from the moderator and audience. The forum will be moderated by the Caribbean Bar Association and the League of Women Voters, but is being presented by the Greater Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Haitian Lawyers Association, Jamaica Bar Association, Barbados American Chamber of Commerce, Belize American Chamber of Commerce, Haitian American Chamber of Commerce, Grenada Cultural Association, Guyanese American Chamber of Commerce, Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce, Trinidad & Tobago South Florida Chamber of Commerce and the St. Kitts & Nevis Association.
