Follow on Google News | Little River Band Benefit Concert Raises $16,000 For National Mill Dog RescueOn Sunday August 14, the Little River Band Benefit Concert for the National Mill Dog Rescue raised $16,000 to help rescue and care for puppy mill dogs.
Following Rhonda and Wayne Nelson's visit to the National Mill Dog Rescue in June, Little River Band wanted to give back to the rescue. Over 800 concert attendees and volunteers enjoyed the outdoor concert held at NMDR's facility Lily's Haven, located in Peyton, Colorado. "We are so happy to give back to such a wonderful organization. The community here has been very supportive," The National Mill Dog Rescue is a Colorado Springs based 501(c)(3) organization that rescues, rehabilitates,and re-homes discarded commercial breeding dogs from puppy mills. NMDR relies on volunteers to care for the dogs, from the moment they are surrendered to the time they are adopted and beyond. Rhonda Gayle Nelson, wife of Wayne Nelson, has always had a passion for dog rescues. On June 13, 2016, Rhonda and Wayne Nelson visited the National Mill Dog Rescue in Peyton, Colorado. This trip allowed the Nelson's to take a day to see the rescue that is so near to their hearts. In Rhonda's upcoming book she has dedicated an entire section to her passion for dog rescue. The Nelsons have a Maltese and have adopted five Maltese in the past with severe health issues. Hailing from Australia, Little River Band claimed their place as one of the greatest vocal bands of the 70's and 80's with hits such as "Reminiscing," The band formed in 1975 and has since secured a place for themselves as one of the great vocal bands in Australia and the U.S. With over 30 million albums sold and 13 American Top 40 hits, the band continues to tour and keep fans rocking to their favorite songs year in and year out. Current members performing include Greg Hind, Rich Herring, Ryan Ricks, Chris Marion, and Wayne Nelson.
