By: NAMSS

WASHINGTON - Oct. 3, 2016 - PRLog -- The National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) released the first of its kind, State of the Medical Services Profession Report, on Sept. 19, 2016 at the NAMSS 40th Educational Conference & Exhibition in Boston. Unique to the industry, the report raises awareness, educates, and aims to obtain recognition within the healthcare landscape for Medical Services Professionals (MSPs), articulating that the MSP profession is a valuable one in the healthcare arena and that it is  vital  for  overall patient safety.

Evolving over the past 40 years from a profession that encompassed primarily clerical positions, the medical services profession now spans a wide range of employment settings and requires a specific knowledge base and professional core competencies. By creating this report, NAMSS is providing MSPs with the tools they need to become activists for their field and showcase the important role they have within their healthcare organization.

"During my tenure as a Medical Services Professional, I have seen the role of MSPs evolve in significance for the healthcare industry," says NAMSS President Bonnie Gutierrez. "I see advancement opportunities for MSPs and education that will pave the way for future leaders. We are proud to launch the "State of the Medical Services Profession" Report as a tool for MSPs to show their valuable role in patient safety and to help ensure MSPs will have long, prosperous and purposeful careers."

In the coming months, NAMSS will launch resources and education to aid MSPs in conversations with their department staff, healthcare administrators, and chief medical officers on the valuable MSPs have within the healthcare industry. Additionally, NAMSS will celebrate National Medical Staff Services Awareness Week, Nov. 6-12, with new tools and information to continue to support MSPs in their careers.

The State of the Medical Service Profession Report is based on research compiled by NAMSS via its 2014 Job Task Analysis (JTA), NAMSS member surveys, focus groups, and interviews; and outlines the core functions, needed skills, and industry trends of the profession.
