PHOENIX - Oct. 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Comfort Matters® is a philosophy, care practice and an evidence-based program that offers holistic and integrated approach to improve the quality of care and quality of life for persons with dementia. It was developed at Beatitudes Campus in Phoenix through more than a decade of research around person-directed health care practices and the latest science on supporting people who are living with dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.

The accreditation process took 13 months and included an intense review of the organization's practices, pertinent medical records, verification of staff competencies and integration of Comfort Matters® policies and procedures as it pertains to the care given to residents.  After an initial five-day on-site educational program for all levels of Sharon Towers' team, Comfort Matters® educators and consultants met with the team for weekly coaching calls and an additional onsite visit from the Comfort Matters® team to guide them into meeting benchmarks for adoption of evidence-based best practice standards for people with dementia, their families and staff. Sharon Towers met the milestones and now is part of an elite group of long-term care providers known for excellence in dementia care.

"Sharon Towers is highly committed to making a difference in the lives of people living with dementia," says Tena Alonzo, director of Comfort Matters®. "As an accredited Comfort Matters® provider, they have met the standard in providing a holistic and person-directed approach to serving people with dementia."

"After a national search for the best approaches in dementia care, we were delighted to have found Beatitudes and their Comfort Matters® program," says Anne Moffat, President and CEO of Sharon Towers. "Our team has worked very hard to achieve this accreditation and we are very proud to be the first facility in North Carolina to offer this person centered model that truly focuses on the comfort of each individual."
