Meyer Offers Porcelain Crowns to Patients as Part of His Specialization in Implants. For over twenty-five years, Eric M. Meyer has offered a wide range of advanced procedures to patients in the Orange County area at Fullerton Dental. While other doctors in the clinic specialize in periodontics (gum disease) and sedation, Dr. Meyer and one of his partners, Dr. Eric Cho, specialize in implants. This type of surgery constructs artificial teeth which are inserted into the patients' jawbone, but the part of the tooth the world sees is the crown. Porcelain crowns have the advantage of looking like normal teeth, but when combined with a metal base, they're durable and stable. Crowns can be made from a variety of materials, and vary according to appearance, strength, and the skill required to make them. Gold crowns are strong, but are obviously unnatural, and not everybody likes their appearance. Other materials include glass and plastic resins and the mercury alloy, called amalgam, traditionally used for filling in cavities. Porcelain, however, matches the color of patients' teeth (or their ideal teeth), and takes a great deal of skill to produce. If an entire tooth is being replaced, an abutment must be placed on top of the implant. Afterward, a mold must be taken of the newly shaped tooth or abutment, and the creation of a new crown will take a few weeks. During this time, patients will be given temporary crowns. Upon completion, the crown is inserted during a separate surgery, which requires anesthetic. Porcelain crowns must be cared for like regular teeth, but with a metal base, they can last for decades. Dr. Meyer also offers partial porcelain crowns, called inlays or onlays as well as veneers for cosmetic work. Fullerton Dental is proud to only use the highest-quality fabrications and takes great care to ensure that artificial teeth are always just the right fit, shape, and color.
