Typical veneers are thin porcelain casings that are bonded to the front of patient's teeth. However, they usually require that the teeth be reshaped, which is a polite way of saying that enamel needs to be ground away. Lumineers are thinner than normal veneers, so no reshaping is required, and therefore, neither are anesthesia and temporary restorations to wear in between visits (assuming that the shape of the tooth itself is not the main problem).
