Follow on Google News | Navy Day Celebrated on Sunday: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauds bravery of naval forcesPrime Minister Narendra Modi and the President Pranab Mukherjee at the Navy Day Reception hosted by the Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba at Navy House in New Delhi on Sunday. Prime Minister Modi saluted the bravery of the naval forces. He said that the country cherishes the role played by the Navy. India observes Navy Day on 4th December every year to celebrate the achievements and role of the naval force to the country. The celebration of the day commemorates the launch of Operation Trident by the Indian Navy against Pakistan in December 4th, 1971. During the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the Indian Navy had played a major role in the bombing of the Karachi harbour, the stronghold of the Pakistani Navy. In this attack, Indian Navy sank 4 Pakistani vessels and wrecked the Karachi harbour fuel fields. In this operation, 3 missile boats of the Indian Navy, INS Nipat, INS Nirghat, and INS Veer had played a key role. Operation Trident had also resulted in first use of anti-ship missiles in the Arabian Sea region. As per to the officials, the Easter Naval Command will provide an operational demonstration of naval ships & aircraft to showcase the competence and versatility of Naval ships in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh today. The sources say that at least 24 ships and 17 naval aircraft are expected to participate in 2016 Navy Day demonstration.
