Wolves FC will play Bellflower (Calif.)-based Real Sociedad Royals at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24 at John Anson Ford Park (8000 Park Ln, Bell Gardens, CA 09201) in Qualifying Round 1 for the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament. L.A. Wolves FC General Manager Daniel Collazo said, "It's that time of year again, and the start of autumn for L.A. Wolves FC now means the start of qualifying for the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. We expect a difficult match and take nothing for granted as we will be prepared to fight for 90 minutes." L.A. Wolves FC, which reached the 2017 U.S. Open Cup Third Round, has had an influx of new talent this summer. L.A. Wolves FC recently signed some exciting and dynamic player additions with forwards Dmitriy Zhuravlev, German Alfaro, Carlos Figueroa and Stephen Mongu, goalkeeper Cesar Ortega, midfielders Cesar Rivera, Jose Gomez, Edgar Gonzalez, Daniel Baumgartner, Gerardo Romero, Mikhail Nasurullin and Julio Ortiz, and defenders Jaroud Rouleau, Mason Klinks and Ruben Rodriguez. Long-standing returning L.A. Wolves FC players include goalkeeper Kifi Cabrera, forward Joseph "Tarzan" Fernandez, midfielders Joel Ampofo, Henry Escobar, Sori Keita, Luis Mora, and defenders Daniel Hubert, Luis Loreto and Shannon Murphy. Currently atop the UPSL's Pro Premier Division Western Conference after a 1-0 victory over Sporting San Fernando in the 2017 Fall Season opener, L.A. Wolves FC next plays Santa Clarita Storm in a league fixture on Saturday, Sept. 30. "We played some good preseason matches to get prepared for the qualification process," Collazo said. "We've been here before and the players know what is at stake." The club previously defeated Real Sociedad, 4-1, on Sept. 17, 2016 in the Qualifying Round 1 for the last tournament, which recently ended with Sporting Kansas City (MLS) defeating New York Red Bulls (MLS), 2-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, in the USOC Championship Final. The UPSL Supporter's Shield winner for the 2017 Spring Season, L.A. Wolves FC joins 38 fellow United Premier Soccer League teams attempting to qualify for the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
