Follow on Google News | ![]() MahoganyBooks Celebrates Anacostia Grand Opening in FebruaryBy: MahoganyBooks MahoganyBooks, an award-winning New York Times reporting bookstore that specializes in books written for, by or about people of the African Diaspora, will celebrate its grand opening throughout February with book discussions and signings, giveaways and a book drive to promote children's literacy. MahoganyBooks is the first book store to open in historic Anacostia in over two decades. The Grand Opening Day and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for MahoganyBooks will take place on Saturday, February 10th. Opening day activities include the following: · Book discussion for teens featuring New York Times bestselling author of All American Boys and Miles Morales: Spiderman Jason Reynolds. 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. · Juniors Read Book Drive for children 2 to 8 years. 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. · Ribbon cutting ceremony with special guests: Deputy Mayor for Greater Economic Opportunity Courtney R. Snowden, Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon White (invited), Chairman of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8A Troy Prestwood, Executive Director of the Washington Literacy Center Jimmie Williams and the Anacostia Arts Center. 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. · Meets and Greet Book Signing with author of Pulling It All Together and lifestyle expert Paul Wharton. 6:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. · MahoganyBooks Private Reception for local authors and industry professionals. The month-long celebration kicks off on February 3rd with the Booklovers' Breakfast with White House correspondent April Ryan. MahoganyBooks will also co-host an early private screening of Marvel's Black Panther Movie on Thursday, February 15th.
