Joe Simon, The Legend: Historical Dunbar High School

NEW YORK - April 2, 2018 - PRLog -- After many hours, weeks and months of patience, hard work and intense negotiating with the

Louisiana Avoyelles Parish School Board and after assuring them the Joe Simon Community

Educational Programs will be gigantic for the citizens of Simmesport and it will also encourage

and highlight the positive social lifestyle of the community, the keys for the Dunbar School were

handed over to the Mayor of Simmesport, Mayor Leslie Draper III. The school has been officially

renamed the Simmesport Community Center.

On November 9, 2017, the town of Simmesport, Louisiana declared and adopted

Resolution NO: 11-2017- 29

Collaboration With Joe Simon Outreach Ministries

The Joe Simon Community Outreach Ministries civic programs range from educational to the

performing arts and much more. The Joe Simon Outreach Ministries bring together people of all

ages connecting children, young adults and senior citizens creating in the youths a sense of

pride and vested interest in their community. The new Simmesport Community Center sits on

the old Dunbar High School property, later changed to Simmesport Elementary School prior to

1988 and more recently the Dunbar school was used and operated as a jail, a correctional facility for

women run by the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Department.

Simon says, "A city's economy is only as good as its infrastructure, and its infrastructure is only

as good as the character of the people. I would like to thank the Louisiana Avoyelles Parish

School Board, the Simmesport Community, and the Mayor of Simmesport, Mayor Leslie Draper

III for giving me this great opportunity to partner with and help my hometown/ community of
Simmesport, Louisiana."
