Poole College Economics Associate Professor Melinda Sandler Morrill Named a TIAA Institute Fellow

RALEIGH, N.C. - May 24, 2018 - PRLog -- Melinda Sandler Morrill, associate professor of economics at the North Carolina State University Poole College of Management, has been appointed to the TIAA Institute Fellows Program. She is one of eight nationally recognized higher education scholars with expertise in financial literacy and strategic management selected for the program this year.

Now in its 20th year, the TIAA Institute continues its commitment to and investment in the production of in-depth research. The Institute's Fellows Program is one such way it provides a platform to leading researchers, and this year's class continues that tradition of excellence, the TIAA Institute stated in a news release today announcing the new fellows.

The fellows were selected based on recommendations from current TIAA Institute fellows, demographics, and an evaluation of their research and professional activities. As fellows, they are able to conduct TIAA Institute-sponsored research on critical issues in the areas of finance and higher education.

"I am honored to be appointed as a TIAA Fellow," Morrill said. "The Institute's mission to provide 'objective, actionable information' to leaders in the educational, nonprofit and public sectors fits well with NC State's charge to think and do. I look forward to the engagement opportunities this role will provide. I am particularly excited to interact with the other fellows and with the TIAA Institute through symposiums and forums.

Lee Craig, professor and head of the Department of Economics at Poole College, said this recognition reflects Morrill's strong sponsored research and teaching activities. "Melinda has been very successful in obtaining outside funding to support her research and her graduate students, which has helped her maintain a successful research agenda. She has also done an excellent job as a teacher, both in the classroom and in working with her doctoral students."

Earlier this year, Morrill was appointed as an NBER Faculty Research Associate and as an associate editor of the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance. At NC State, she has a permanent appointment as a University Faculty Scholar.

Robert Clark, Zelnak Professor of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and professor of economics in the Poole College Department of Economics, is also a TIAA Fellow.
