The ZYG 808 Making Moves In The Studio

MASHPEE, Mass. - June 6, 2018 - PRLog -- Almost exactly one year after The ZYG 808 first set foot in Area Twenty-Two and got behind the mic to record his verses for "Flippin", the young artist is back. This time he's dropping verses for his debut single "The Concerto" as well as tracks for his upcoming album, "The Intro". After spending the last year writing and performing, as well as working out his sound with the Down Streeters' production team, he's ready for the next step and will be co-producing the project.

The ZYG 808 is no stranger to the studio, having made his debut as a session percussionist at the age of seven, appearing on Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor's multi-award-winning house music album "DEEP Soul Chants & Hollers". Aside from developing his own solo project, The ZYG 808 has had a very busy year playing out with The GroovaLottos. It was at the UBC-TV pre-Grammy party that featured The GroovaLottos, where The ZYG 808's intentions to enter the arena as a solo artist were announced.

The ZYG 808, in his own words, is "a boom bap artist of the backpacker persuasion." While he's a fan of many contemporary artists like Kendrick Lamar, Hopsin, J Cole, and Jaren Benton; the influences of artists like Rakim Allah, EPMD, Brand Nubian, and beat makers like Pete Rock, Premiere, and Ali Shaid Muhammad.

A master jazz percussionist, The ZYG 808's album features a lot of live drums and drum loops of The ZYG's live grooves. We can also expect some jazz pieces and spoken-word in between as well.

The ZYG 808 will be appearing in The Phunk Hits 2018 summer concert tour, with the next show being on June 16 at the Dedham Square Coffeehouse, 565 High St in Dedham, MA
