educogym Canary Wharf debate crack down on huge brands in effort to end childhood obesity

Major food brands in the UK are being asked to remove popular cartoon characters from their junk food in a bid to reduce childhood obesity in the UK. educogym Canary Wharf discuss.

CANARY WHARF, U.K. - June 18, 2018 - PRLog -- When you walk down the aisle in a shop or supermarket, you see hundreds of brands and items aimed to get young children's attention, cereal, chocolate, cup cakes and more, but with one in every 25 10 and 11 year olds being classed as obese, something has to change. "Its obvious, you want your item to sell, and against other competitors you need to stand out and so adding a cartoon character to the box to attract more sales is understandable, however these days the brands really need to look at the bigger picture. The ingredients in the item, are they healthy? Is it ideal for children? Or are you advertising an unhealthy item to a child that really doesn't need it?" questioned Godfrey Nurse, educogym Canary Wharf personal trainer.

There is also a huge amount to be done in supermarkets, putting a cap on multibuy deals on junk food, removing junk food from the check out areas and so on. "Money is a huge factor for most families when shopping, so when you see multibuy offers its easy to grab them, however the multibuys are always on junk food, its very rare to see buy one get one free on bananas, so no wonder parents grab the unhealthy option! Its also really bad that supermarkets still have areas at every check out full of sugary sweets and fizzy drinks, they know people will easily grab something if they are hungry or thirsty without thinking, however its tough on parents, knowing every time you shop you are faced with more sweets to tell your children they cant have, it would be so much better if this was an aisle of fruit and bottled water instead" explained Orlstyne Wilson, educogym Canary Wharf personal trainer.

The UK has some of the strictest policies on junk food advertisement in Europe, however it is still not proving effective. "It has also been said that junk adverts on the TV will need to be after the 9pm watershed to limit the amount of advertising young people see. Many of our clients at educogym Canary Wharf struggle with sugar addiction, most without knowing, and once they get the education from us they understand what it does to our bodies and they avoid junk food" explained Godfrey Nurse, educogym Canary Wharf personal trainer.

It is very positive to hear that more brands and supermarkets will be making changes to try and reduce childhood obesity, that, along with great education for parents and children should lead to a healthier generation.
