Larkin, PE, MBTA Assistant General Manager for Capital Delivery and Housamm ("Sam") H. Sleiman, PE, CCM, MassPort Director of Capital Programs & Environmental Affairs. SMMA, with offices in Cambridge, was retained by the Education Facilities Planning and Building Committee of Winchester High School to help transform the out-of-place 1970's brutalist building centrally located in a dense, downtown neighborhood with no excess land to construct a new school; the building was in an expansive floodplain with site settlement and contaminated soils and did not reflect the school's top 10 status and National Blue Ribbon credentials. SMMA faced many challenges with the project, including the need to design for settlement both under and around the building.
