GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Sept. 16, 2018 - PRLog -- Kentucky author Nick Allen Brown will visit Georgetown on the weekend of Oct. 5-7 to make two special appearances. The author of Field of Dead Horses, a page-turning mystery set in Georgetown, will discuss and read from his book at Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm and at the Scott County Public Library.

From seed to feed to spectacular

Brown's appearance at Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm coincides with the Oct. 5 Seed to Feed Dinner. Hosted by Chef Justin Thompson of Georgetown's Local Feed Seasonal Kitchen & Craft Bar, the four-course dinner features pairings with beer, wine and/or cocktails, live music and auctions with diners bidding on goodies from Georgetown shops, restaurants and attractions to benefit host sites' upkeep and cares. Tickets: www.localfeedky.com/#dinnerSeries.

Guest chef for this memorable evening is Quita Michel, a James Beard Foundation Award nominee as Outstanding Restaurateur and Best Chef Southeast known for her commitment to locally sourced foods. Michel's family of Kentucky restaurants includes the Holly Hill Inn, Wallace Station Deli, Windy Corner Market and Restaurant, Smithtown Seafood, the Midway Bakery, Glenn's Creek Café at Woodford Reserve Distillery where Michel is chef-in-residence, Honeywood and Smithtown at the Summit.

Field of Dead Horses concerns a nearly 80-year-old secret and its ties to Georgetown. Old Friends is particularly well-suited as the site for Brown's readings as it is a living-history museum of horse racing, home to such equine celebrities as Kentucky Derby Winner, Silver Charm, and Popcorn Deelites, featured in the title role of the 2003 Academy Award-winning movie, "Seabiscuit." Old Friends actually has two "fields of dead horses" on its 176 acres; the Memorial Gardens are the final resting places of Mixed Pleasure, a great-great grandson of the real Seabiscuit, and Williamstown, the son of Seattle Slew, among other legends of the turf.

Free: Meet, Greet & Eat with author Nick Allen Brown

On Saturday, Oct. 6, the Scott County Public Library invites the public to come to a free Meet, Eat & Greet event when it hosts the author from 3-5 p.m. Sweetening the afternoon will be delicious homemade pies provided by Fava's, a local dining favorite featured in Brown's novel. At both events, Brown will discuss the inspiration behind his Georgetown-based novel and his personal experiences when visiting the area. A book discussion, excerpt readings and an informal book signing will also take place. In addition to the highly regarded Field of Dead Horses, Brown is the author of The Astronaut at Bear Creek and the soon-to-be released dramatic thriller, Grainger County Tomatoes.
