George V sterling silver trophy cup. Made by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths in London in 1929.

Bowl with wing-mounted and leaf-wrapped caryatid side handles. Applied enamel flags and circular and wreathed frames. One is inset with a chased motorboat in churning water. The other is engraved: Presented by / Sir Thomas J. Lipton Bart.

KCVO / to the / National Yacht Club of Toronto / for competition / outboard hydroplane races / Canadian National Exhibition Regatta / 1929.

Spool knop on baluster shaft with acanthus leaves and scrolled brackets terminating in base knop. Raised foot with scalloping and lobing.
Raised cover with cast finial in form of nude, sandal-shod angel. She lunges forward with one arm outstretched and the other clasping her drapery. A wonderful period ornament that suggests the influence of the radiator mascot. Hallmarked. Very good condition.

Dimensions: H 25 1/2 x W 11 1/2 x D 7 in. Weight: 82 troy ounces.
