AUSTIN, Texas - March 8, 2019 - PRLog -- El Paso start-up OTEN Medical will be attending the South by Southwest (SXSW) Trade Show for the second consecutive year, March 10-13, 2019, in Austin, Texas.  The SXSW Trade Show enhances and complements conference programming with endless unexpected discovery opportunities.  The Trade Show is the place at SXSW to find creative businesses and organizations looking to make a difference.

OTEN Medical is dedicated and focused on improving the quality of life for people with Diabetes.  The company will be showcasing the DiFoBod: A Diabetic Foot Care Telehealth System. The DiFoBod is designed to facilitate daily foot care assessments, adequately drying between toes where elderly find it difficult to reach.  The DiFoBod captures images of the foot soles top self asses and connect with their healthcare providers through Telehealth to evaluate images and provide ongoing care.

"Diabetic foot checks are an integral part of people with diabetes daily routine to safeguard them from incurring ulcers.  The way people are taught has not changed for decades and the outcomes are worse every year," said OTEN Medical's CEO and Founder Ernesto Holguin, RN.  The DiFoBod solves the antiquated way of diabetic foot checks with the person who is performing the task in mind.  This device was invented and patented by a nurse whom works with actual people with diabetes and witnesses firsthand the horrific ulcer progression people face. Mr. Holguin said, "Telehealth will better manage chronic conditions, I feel that the existing technology is an opportune time to properly monitor diabetic's feet from the comfort of their own home and allow for an earlier medical rapid response.  Saving tissue from death will in turn deter re-hospitalizations, infections, amputations and insensible deaths."

The US spends a total of $176 billion on direct costs for diabetes care: as much as one third of this expenditure is related to lower extremely care. As much as 34% of diabetics will suffer from a Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) at some point in their lives. Once healed, a DFU recurrence rate is 40% costing the healthcare economy millions in direct and indirect care.
