Follow on Google News | ![]() Dr. Shlomo Melmed to Receive AACE Frontiers in Science AwardDean of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Will Accept the Award at AACE 2019
Dr. Melmed will receive his award during AACE 2019, the association's 28th Annual Scientific & Clinical Congress in Los Angeles. In addition, he will give a plenary session at the conference on the topic, "From Zebrafish to Humans: Translating Discoveries for the Treatment of Cushing's Disease." The AACE Frontiers in Science Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exemplary contributions to their individual profession or area of expertise. Dr. Melmed has been a faculty member at Cedars-Sinai for nearly 40 years, where he currently leads research and education programs. Funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1980, Dr. Melmed's laboratory has studied wide-ranging aspects of pituitary medicine, from discovering mechanisms underlying regulation of disordered ACTH and GH production to identifying novel molecules for pituitary tumor therapy. His NIH-funded training program has supported more than 75 doctoral and post-doctoral trainees. As an authority on pituitary medicine, Dr. Melmed has served as pituitary editor of the Williams Textbook of Endocrinology, co-author of the Harrison's Textbook pituitary section and the author of more than 350 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Melmed is a former president of the International Society of Endocrinology and the Pituitary Society, and a recipient of prestigious awards from organizations including the Endocrine Society, Society of Endocrinology and the Royal Society of Medicine.
