By: The Music Foundation of Southwest Florida New this year is the TV production and film camp and a flute ensemble for middle schoolers and high schoolers. Camps are held at the centrally located Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School in Fort Myers and staffed by faculty who are current Lee County teachers who are selected for their expertise and ability to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with the students and aspiring musicians. The summer camp programs provide a variety of high quality artistic and educational experiences that promote positive personal growth, interest, and achievement in the arts. The programs are designed to develop cooperation, personal responsibility, teamwork, respect, and goal achievement. Faculty members strive to ensure that all participants have positive, enjoyable, and successful experiences. The week-long Summer Arts Camps offer music theory, note-reading, proper practice skills for music students and special enrichment activities for all. "We are excited about our expanded summer camp offerings this year. We have new camps in TV production and film, dance and more. There is something for everyone. We are proud to offer such a well-rounded and enriching program," said Ruth Christman, executive director of The Music Foundation of Southwest Florida. "The benefits of a music education are beyond learning to play an instrument and to read music. Students also learn valuable life skills such as self-discipline, nonverbal communication, the importance of completing a task, improved self-worth as well as reinforced math skills, history and literature, and more." The Summer Arts Camps feature excellent and safe facilities, low student to teacher ratio, highly qualified staff and educators, and student presentations and performances at the end of each camp that give students the opportunity to demonstrate accomplishments and achievements. Students must provide their own instruments for all band and string camps.
