Daughter of Holocaust and A-bomb survivors tells 8th Graders about the dangers of hateRoslyn showed students why they need to know and care about what people like her parents went through in the past to understand the dangers of this kind of prejudice, hate and evil and what it can lead to in the future if left unchecked. She inspired them with greater hope, courage and understanding that they have the power of choice in their outlook toward themselves, others and the world around them. Franken encouraged students to better their lives and help make the world a better place for their future by treating others with kindness, compassion, dignity and respect regardless of differences in ethnic background, race, religion and any other differentiating factors. Teacher Kim Fennewald said, "Roslyn did an outstanding presentation today for Belleview Middle School. This is the time of year when our students start to make questionable choices and are starting to get a little scared and apprehensive about their future and where they're going and what types of decisions they're going to have to make. This presentation couldn't have come at a more perfect time. And to have three hundred 8th grade students to sit for more than ten minutes absolutely quiet, engaged and focused where nobody had to be removed or talked to, and with extra staff in place for supervision, you could hear a pin drop." For video clips, see https://youtu.be/ In April 2018 Roslyn spoke to the class at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High school in Parkland Florida that was shot into by the gunman on February 14, 2018. This event launched her School Speaking program in the United States. Roslyn travels across North America telling her parents' story to middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities. She also speaks for diverse faith-based groups, community organizations, senior groups, corporations, cancer groups and more. A feature film adaptation of Franken's book, Meant to Be, is currently in development.
