The evening began with dinner and included a presentation comparing the interfaith message of Pope Francis with that of Fethullah Gulen, spiritual founder of the worldwide Hizmet Movement. Dr. Grudzen read from his new book with John Raymaker, Ph.D., Pope Francis: Conscience of the World, highlighting the comparison between the two faith leaders. Dr. Grudzen has partnered with the Hizmet movement in Africa. Known as "Paths to Peace Kenya," Dr. Gruzen's interfaith work with the Kenyan schools in the coastal region has taken place there for the past eight years. Global Ministries University is now offering an interfaith course with the support of the Pacifica Institute beginning in early March based on the interfaith teachings of Fethullah Gulen and Pope Francis. Dr. Gerald Grudzen and Dr. Nihal Sahan, an interfaith leader with the Pacifica Institute and doctoral graduate of GM will co-facilitate this Zoom course. Endorsements for Pope Francis, Conscience of the World : "Readers will benefit greatly from the examples given of Pope Francis's engagement with the variety of people, cultures, and religions in different parts of the world. This book should be widely read and discussed. It can help to inspire more understanding and collaboration between different parts of humanity and make us realize that we all belong to the same Earth and Humanity and must work together to ensure the future of our common home." ~ Ursula King, Professor Emerita of Theology and Religious Studies, University of Bristol, UK "This book shows how Pope Francis inspires us by his witness ....The juxtaposition of Pope Francis pioneering work and his moral voice calling for just political and economic actions with Teilhard's theology of evolution is an impassioned invitation to each one of us. We are being made aware of how to become a church of the Earth and regain our responsibilities toward a global community that its about equity and equality because of the power of love." ~ Sister Judith (Joy) Esmenda, M.M. The event fittingly took place on Valentine's Day, as it also celebrated the centennial anniversary of the foundation of the Maryknoll Sisters, a Valentine for the world.
